While Americans were being distracted by Donald Trump’s indictments and Hunter Biden’s laptop, our Government snuck another thing by us. But this time it wasn’t the USDA approving lab created meat. Here is that link.
The Department of Energy officially added copper to their list of critical minerals, against the recommendation from the USGS. Letter from USGS to Senator Sinema.
Here is a link to Senator Sinema’s website touting a “a secure and reliable supply of domestic copper resources”.
Below is taken directly from the DOE website
The Energy Act of 2020 defines a “critical material” as:
- Any non-fuel mineral, element, substance, or material that the Secretary of Energy determines: (i) has a high risk of supply chain disruption; and (ii) serves an essential function in one or more energy technologies, including technologies that produce, transmit, store, and conserve energy
Wouldn’t the scenario of a foreign owned company, who owns land in the US, mining a US “critical mineral”, then sending it off to a foreign adversary for processing be considered “a high risk of supply chain disruption”. The complete opposite of Senator Sinema’s vision of “a secure and reliable supply of domestic copper resources”.
The social media and marketing networks of many Canadian junior mining companies are abuzz with this news as it is considered an “open door” for them. Well, the Galiuro Mountains were fun while they lasted. This will undoubtedly fast track London and Australian based Resolution Copper at Oak Flats, and Canadian based Rosemont Copper in the Santa Ritas as it has for Australian based South 32 zinc/manganese mine in the Patagonias.
Let the Wild West money grab begin.
This part of Arizona will look very different in a few years with no long-term benefit to the people of Arizona or America.
