On Thursday May 2nd Faraday Copper posted a news release that says:

Faraday Copper Receives Approval from the Bureau of Land

Management for its Notice of Intent to Conduct Drilling

at its Copper Creek Project in Arizona

Wait! What? How can that be? Their application is still pending with BLM and there has been no public input or meeting. The link to the BLM page for the Copper Creek Project is here.

Could Faraday be doing something shady or maybe even illegal?

It seems they broke up their larger 67-site project application into a smaller 11-site application. This allows them to sidestep the NEPA process as it may not disturb more than 5 acres.

The problem with that is, if true, it is illegal. The law states you “must not segment a project”. See below. Link to the law is here.

We have reached out to BLM with no response regarding this approval.

Please reach out to BLM and ask questions! The general email to the BLM Safford field office is blm_az_sfoweb@blm.gov and the phone number is 928-348-4400.

Also direct contacts can be found the Copper Creek Project NEPA page located here.

Thanks to everyone for their support.
